Transport 2056

Transport 2056

Shape the future of Sydney and NSW's transport strategy.

TOWARDS 2056

In an effort to engage the general public, Transport for NSW has created a game that puts New South Wales' transport future in their hands. Interact with an active map of the state and address problem spots and bottlenecks by initiating new infrastructure projects or drafting new policies.

Take the role of Transport Manager and make your mark on Sydney.

TOWARDS 2056

The app uses two main interfaces – the 1) more visual Map interface and 2) the text-heavy Inbox interface – and often switching seamlessly between the two. The challenge was to balance the educational content while trying to maintain the engagement and an element of fun. This was achieved through applying concepts of gamification, with the user playing the role of the transport manager and working their way up the ladder with each successful move.

EDUCATING the user

Transport Manager 2056 is as much an education and awareness exercise as it is a game. By playing, the public will be faced with real world challenges and potential solutions, each with different consequences for the states productivity, environmental impact and safety. The ultimate goal is to create a balanced system to improve liveability.

ENGAGING GAMEPLAY

As users progress through the game, the scenarios turn to the hypothetical, futuristic concepts that may one day be a reality. Think flying cars and hyperloop, not to mention the changing work behaviour as more people begin flexible and remote jobs that have other infrastructure implications.

This responsive site is optimised for mobile - straddling the border between educational simulator and game. As with all simulator and management games it is meant for repeated plays and offers a large scope of outcomes for the users. The end goal is ultimately to educate the public about the future of transport and to get them involved in the conversation - either by completing the companion survey or social sharing with friends.
